Jacopo Di Cera – Milky Bath #6 (2021)

The photographic work Milky Bath #6 by Jacopo Di Cera is part of the “Milky Way” series, in which the artist explores one of Italy’s most ambiguous and unsettling landscapes: the White Beaches of Rosignano Solvay, where the natural light of the Mediterranean merges with the artificial glow produced by industrial discharges from the Solvay plant.

This is a place where nature and chemistry blend to the point of losing their identity, creating a non-place suspended between attraction and unease. The milky water and white sand tell of a “false” yet irresistible beauty—a man-made paradise born from environmental error, now emblematic of our era’s contradictions.

The collection includes both photographs and videos: the physical images freeze the illusion of this surreal landscape, while the looped videos — part of the Infinity project — stretch the perception of time, transforming the experience into a continuous flow without beginning or end. In this “phygital” dimension, the work exists simultaneously in both real and digital space, inviting the viewer to lose themselves in a sea that no longer belongs to time, but to imagination.

Rosignano, in the hands of the artist, becomes a visual metaphor for modernity: a place where, despite knowing the illusion, man keeps diving in. It is the representation of an impossible beauty, where matter dissolves in light, and truth blurs with its reflected image.

Created using Fine Art printing on Baryta paper, mounted on Dibond and protected by 5 mm Plexiglas, the work measures 145.3 × 84.4 cm and is produced in a limited edition of 6, each piece numbered and signed. Each shot stems from a meticulous process of composition and color, in which the aesthetics of the landscape merge with a reflection on the social and environmental conditions of today, between physical and digital, reality and representation.
