THE ARTWORK

-

This particular work shows a set of writings and drawings with the customary words erased, because as Basquiat said "Delete the words so that they can be noticed." The fact that they are obscure makes you want to read them even more." Even the drawings are erased or broken, as if they are about to be swallowed up by the swamp that gives the title to the print.

Basquiat's pop art is very different from the shiny of Andy Warhol, it comes from the street and preserves the brutality and the strong social criticism, which was never fully understood: the market took possession of his works by selling them to expensive price but removing the subversive charge. It was perhaps because of the misunderstanding and misunderstanding of his art that Basquiat was even more abusing of drugs (which he had always used) until he was killed, just 27 years old.

The work was printed for the opening night exhibition "Jean-Michel Basquiat" at the Kestner-Gesellschaft in Hannover, Germany (the exhibition took place from 28 November 1986 to 25 January 1987).
